How to Play Craps

Craps is an exciting game, based around the roll of two dice. Although it may sound simple, there are many different permutations in a game of Craps and the betting options can be quite complex. When you fist approach a Craps table, you will see that the table has a very distinctive layout. Each of the options on the table are the bets that are available to make and you can make these wagers by placing your chips on a particular area of the table.

The game begins with two dice being rolled into the centre of the table and this first roll is known as the "come out roll". If the total of the two dice is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, a "point" is established. If any other total occurs, the round ends immediately. After a point has been established, an "ON" chip will be placed on the table on the value of the point. After the point is established, the dice will be rolled continuously until either the same point or a 7 is rolled.

Within the game, there are many betting possibilities. You can wager that certain numbers will appear whether particular dice combinations will be rolled or you can bet that a number will not be rolled within a round. On top of these bets are several Craps bets that are particular to the game and are some of the most popular wagers that are made. These include:

Pass Line & Don't Pass Line Bets - These bets are place before the come out roll. With a Pass Line bet, if a 7 or an 11 is rolled on the come out roll, you win. If a 2, 3 or 12 is rolled, you lose. If any other number is rolled, that number becomes the point and you win the bet if the point is rolled before a 7. Don't Pass Line bets work exactly the same way, only in reverse. So, you lose when the come out roll is 7 or 11 and win when it is 2or 3 (12 results in a "push" and your bet being returned). Likewise, in all other cases, your bet wins if a 7 is rolled before the point.
Come & Don't Come Bets - You place these bets by placing your chips on the Come or Don't Come boxes on the Craps table. If the next roll is a 7 or 11, you win and if it is a 2,3 or 12 you lose. If another number is rolled, a Come point is established on that number and your bet wins if the come point is rolled before a 7. Don't come bets pay out if the next roll is 2 or 3 (12 is a "push") and loses when the next roll is 7 or 11. When a come point is established, the Don't Come bet wins if a 7 is rolled before the come point.
